The seeds of Esperanza (Hope) are sprouting all over the world for locally administered community green spaces and justice for all people. It is an exciting honor to work to heal the earth and our communities with other people who recognize that there is no separation; we are all part of the earth’s wise heart.

More Gardens! is very grateful for all community gardeners and especially our elders whose valuable occupation and community care have extended for over 30 years. More Gardens! is joyously continuing to listen, learn, support, and celebrate:
The preservation of community gardens through local grassroots organizing, Passing on the torch to our youth through our free Summer Camp, and supporting other emerging youth programming preserving and recording the stories and history of NYC community gardens for future generations and creating More Gardens!

Rising Up to new heights has been the “Rise Up and Green the Bronx” free children’s Summer Camp based from Padre Plaza community garden. Children play and volunteer in Bronx community gardens while learning about relationships within their communities, the environment, and with themselves. Our adventures last year took us on a composting expedition to the New York Botanical Garden, canoeing on the Bronx River, identifying butterflies at the Bronx Zoo, as well as the much anticipated overnight train camping adventure to Beacon, NY., a three-day trip to the Catskill forest and so much more. Our new additions of the amazing sacred geometry artist Claudia Montesinos and brilliant wilderness trainer Evan McGowan brought enormous magic and deep learning to the children (8-12), their families and both the youth and senior staff. Dedicated returning staff from the South Bronx community and parent volunteers gave invaluable help and support.

Our continued coalition with Harlem United Gardens (HUG) and their dedicated grassroots Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito has insured the preservation of essential community gardens in East Harlem. We celebrated this project with the festive El Barrio community garden parade this August visiting many of the community gardens who hosted the participants with foods and performances along the way. Children’s Magical Garden has also been on our forefront supporting their new vision by children and their mentors in making this green oasis permanent.

On top of it all we chipped in with very little experience to keep the the Mott Haven Farmers Market also based from Padre Plaza community garden going for another successful year. Thanks to Mike Young the farmers market manager his dedicated staff and Phil Botwinick our parting bookkeeper, fresh healthy food from surrounding farmers were passed into the welcoming families in the South Bronx.

We deeply thank, our many generous donors, Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito, and the Simon Bolivar Foundation's 2011 Bronx Social Program funded by the CITGO Corporation.
